At 1756 hours, in the height of the rain storm, Gladwyne Firefighters were called to the intersection of Conshohocken State Road and Mill Creek Road for a Water Rescue. The caller reported he was stuck in his vehicle and it was being washed away by water. After investigating further, crews found the actual location to be Righters Mill Road at the Ford (Mill Creek Runs over the roadway). Crews found a male driver trapped in his vehicle with water rising rapidly up into his windows. Crews immediately secured rescue ropes from one side of the creek to the other and then tied off one rescuer with a breakaway vest, and formed a human chain, walked out to the victim, placed a life safety vest on him, and walked him back to land where he was evaluated by EMS. Rescue was complete at 1809 hrs. Just minutes after the victim was rescued, his vehicle rolled over and was swept downstream by the force of the water. Gladwyne responded to 11 calls for service during the
storm, most of which were water rescue related. GREAT JOB TO ALL THE GLADWYNE FIREFIGHTERS!

At 0940 hrs, Gladwyne Fire Company was dispatched to a gas leak outside at 30 Righters Mill Road Gladwyne, Upon arrival crews found the call to actually be in Penn Valley (Station 26's district). Crews found a 16 inch natural gas line ruptured after being struck with a back hoe. A large high pressure column of gas was blowing out into the air. Command was established and Station 26 (Narberth) was dispatched to assist from the opposite end of Righters Mill with manpower and extra metering devices. Water supply lines established, handlines placed in service and crews walked around the scene with metering devices and advised neighbors to stay inside with the windows and doors closed. Throughout the 4 1/2 hour incident extra calls for manpower were made from Station 25 (Ardmore), Station 23 (Bryn Mawr), Narberth Ambulance for the Rehab Unit, and a cover Engine from Station 39 (George Clay). Once PECO was able to reduce the pressure of the gas main, they were able to secure a pressure sleeve around the hole in the main. Fire crews then started to break down operations and cleared the scene at 1409 hrs. GREAT JOB by all, and a BIG THANK YOU to all of our assist companies!

| Date: |
8/24/06 |
Gladwyne Firefighters and Board members joined Township Officials in celebration of the ground breaking for the new firehouse and renovations that will take place early next week. Many neighbors and friends also came to celebrate with us on this monumental event! The Gladwyne Fire Company would like to THANK everybody who helped us with our project and look forward to this time next year when we are operating out of our new building! An exciting part of the evening is when Chief Emeritus Culbertson, Chief Block, Chief McGarvey and Chief Knorr utilized the shovel that was used for the original building to "throw" the dirt in the ceremony!
