At around 1100 hours, Narberth Ambulance was dispatched to the Flat Rock Dam on River Road in Gladwyne for an Industrial Accident. The call was quickly upgraded to include Gladwyne Fire Company (home company), Belmont Hills Fire Company (Rescue Company), and Penn Wynne Fire Company (Rescue Company). Upon arrival, crews found an employee who was working around the newly constructed fish ladder when a "runaway" crane rolled into a pick-up truck which in turn knocked the patient 18 feet into the bottom of the fish ladder. EMS Crews along with Fire Crews immobilized the patient, packaged him into a stokes basket and utilized the crane along with rescue tag lines to hoist the patient up out of the below grade environment. The patient was then transported to the Shipley School Athletic Field where Engine 24-1 had secured a Landing Zone for PennSTAR 1 who continued the transport to The Hospital of University of Pennsylvania Trauma Center. EXCELLENT WORK by everybody involved!
