ASSIST EMS AT INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT
Date: 3/30/06 At 1030 hours, Gladwyne Fire Company was dispatched to the 500 block of Scott Road to assist EMS at a construction site accident. A "rough terrain forklift" operating at a house construction site rolled over. A worker standing on the forks, 35 feet in the air, was thrown to the ground and injured. Engine 24 responded to the scene for diesel fuel spilling from the machine and to assist with carrying the patient to the ambulance. Engine 24-1 responded to Waverly and Youngsford Road to secure the landing zone for the medical evacuation helicopter.

IT'S TIME FOR SOFTBALL!
Date: 3/26/06 Today, Members of the Gladwyne Fire Company 2006 Softball team, blew the dust off of our softball equipment and started to practice for the 2006 season. Even though it was raining and overcast, we were still able to loosen up and have a little fun as well. Check back often for our schedule, roster, and standings! We always are happy to see fans cheering on the team!

TRAINING FOR THE FIREFIGHTER COMPETITION
Date: 3/22/06 Tonight's weekly training was dedicated to the upcoming Lower Merion Township Firefighter Challenge. The Challenge is scheduled to take place on May 20, 2006 and will be an enjoyable and competitive day for all of us. Tonight Gladwyne members practiced putting on our turnout gear and air packs and also connecting and stretching hoselines. After practicing for the competition, we threw a few ladders up against the firehouse. We will be dedicating many more drill nights to the competition, as Gladwyne is always up for a challenge!

FIELD TRIP TO NORRISTOWN!
Date: 3/21/06 Tonight, members of Gladwyne Fire Company traveled to Norristown Boro Hall to watch our fellow brother, John Remillard get promoted to Battalion Chief. John, Chris Cossman, and Richard Lockhart, were all promoted to Battalion Chief Positions. We would like to congratulate all three of these fine firefighters in their new positions! Retired Chief George Alfred Culbertson took part in John's promotion, and pinned John's New Battalion Chiefs Badge on him. Chief Culbertson was instrumental in teaching all of us how to be great firefighters over his 35 year term as Chief of Gladwyne.

GLADWYNE ORDERS A TILLER LADDER
Date: 3/20/06 GREAT news at Gladwyne Fire Company! A brand new KME Tiller Ladder has been ordered to replace our 1979 Pierce Snorkel. The new ladder will feature a 2000gpm Hale Qmax pump, with 350 gallons of water, 3 crosslays, 1000 feet of 5 inch supply hose, and and a prepiped waterway. Look for pictures in the future!

LARGE OPEN SPACE SEARCH & RESCUE TRAINING
Date: 3/15/06 For our Wednesday night training this week, we practiced search and rescue techniques in a large open space (our Apparatus bay). Firefighters practiced using ropes to keep in constant contact with their fellow firefighters. Situations like this could arise in a shopping mall, church, warehouse type store, or any other building that has a large open floor plan. Traditional search and rescue methods do not work, so ropes, thermal imaging cameras, and good communications are key to success in these evolutions.

MARINE UNIT OPERATIONS
Date: 3/13/06 Gladwyne Members took advantage of the super weather on Monday by taking Marine 24 out for a few hours on the river. After installing a new intercom and radio interface, we wanted to test out the system with the noise of the engine. Along with the testing, several members were able to practice operations of the marine unit. Lucky even joined in and was watching as the boat was in service!
