At 9:02am, Station 24 (Gladwyne) was dispatched to a garage on fire
in the 800 block of Conshohocken State Road. The call was upgraded and Station 23 (Bryn Mawr)
was dispatched to assist on the assignment. Upon arrival of Engine 24, the crew found a 3.5 car, detached garage with
an apartment above it, with heavy smoke evident. Engine 24 established 24 Command, and requested
the FAST (Engine 26-1 - Narberth) and the air cascade (Rescue 22 - Belmont Hills). Crews stretched two 1.75" hoselines
and extinguished the fire while also checking the second floor apartment for extension. 24 Command (Chief Block)
placed the fire under control at 9:23am.
At 1041 hours, Gladwyne Fire Company was dispatched to the
intersection of Conshohocken State Road and Lafayette Road for a vehicle accident with a possible gas
leak. Upon arrival of Engine 24, crews found a one car accident with a very loud hissing sound from under
the vehicle. Upon investigation, crews found the car sheared off two PECO high pressure natural gas lines
that fed into a control / monitoring box. The driver of the vehicle was not injured so crews established a
water source, ongoing air quality readings around the scene and adjacent streets, and evacuated the
residence next to the incident for precautionary purposes. Crews remained in service for one hour while
PECO secured the hazard. Narberth Ambulance also stood by during the incident.
