Welcome to the web site of the Gladwyne Fire Company. We are located 12 miles outside Philadelphia in
Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Please take the time to browse through our site
and get to know our volunteer and career firefighters. We are always looking for quality individuals to
join our team. There are a multitude of leadership roles possible beyond the fire ground. Firefighting
is just one aspect of volunteering possibilities that Gladwyne Fire Company depends on to be an effective
service to the community.

| Early Morning Calls for Gladwyne Firefighters |
| Date: |
5/12/08 |
As the high winds and rain started in Gladwyne so did the fire
calls. Just after
0130 hrs Gladwyne Firefighters were dispatched to the 600 Block of
Dodds Lane
for a fire alarm. The fire alarm was due to a power outage in the
area. Just after
0700 hrs Gladwyne Firefighters responded to Conshohocken State Road
and Mill
Creek Road for a car fire. Upon our arrival we found a disabled
vehicle off to the side
of the road. We assisted the vehicle owner with contacting Lower
Merion Police
and kept her safe on the side of the road until police arrived.

5/7/08 |
Tonight for drill Ladder 24, Engine 24-1 and Utility 24 traveled up
into Plymouth
Township for a live fire training drill at the fire academy. Crews
operated in the
residential training building with fires in multiple rooms and
multiple floors. The
academy "stokers" were great and kept the fires going all night
long. Ladder 24's main
ladder was also placed to the roof and crews perfected climbing the
ladder with saws
and tools. A great training opportunity for our members and we are
grateful to have
had the opportunity. Thanks to the Fire Academy for allowing us to
train there,
Brian Sarver Jr, Dave Frankenfield Sr. and Dave Frankenfield Jr, for
being our
Stokers tonight!

| GLADWYNE FIREFIGHTERS RECEIVE CERTIFICATION |
| Date: |
4/18/08 |
Today we received word that we have been awarded our "Participating
Department"
Certificate. This program is awarded to companies that have achieved
50%, 75%,
and 100% certification in Firefighter Level I. We have been working
hard to have
our members all be certified to all of the "new" standards. All
Gladwyne members
are certified to be firefighters, but this new standard is an
additional requirement
and goal. We are currently at the 50% mark, but in reality we are up
over 60%.
Our goal is to hit the 75% benchmark in the next years time.
Congratulations to
all of our members that have been working hard to become certified!

Jack Dorrance of Gladwyne sometime in the 1960's. The Hose cart is on display
at the firehouse for anybody that would like to admire its beauty.

| COMMOTION ON RIVER ROAD |
| Date: |
2/12/08 |
Shortly after 0200 hrs this morning Gladwyne Members were dispatched to the Flat
Rock Park on River Road for a Vehicle Rescue. While going en-route to the call it was
evident that something serious had happened from the updates that we were getting
from the dispatch center. Upon arrival crews found a two vehicle accident that occurred
while Philadelphia Police were attempting to apprehend 3 fleeing criminals. All three
patients in the red vehicle were taken into custody by the police and taken to area
Trauma Centers via ground by Narberth Ambulance and PennSTAR. The second vehicle
was located down an embankment in Mill Creek. This was the police officers cruiser.
The officer was able to extricate himself and was taken to the hospital for evaluation
as well. Gladwyne Firefighters secured the hazards in both vehicles, requested PECO,
set up lights for the entire accident scene, handled the landing zone for PennSTAR
at Waverly Heights, and remained on scene until 0730 hrs assisting Lower Merion
Police and Plisinski Brothers Towing while they removed the vehicles.
Great Job by Gladwyne Firefighters who were in service for over 5 hours!

| MESS AT SUPER FRESH |
| Date: |
2/11/08 |
Just after 6pm tonight Gladwyne Members were dispatched to the Super
Fresh
on Youngsford Road for a Fire Alarm. Upon arrival crews found the
alarm activating
and the customers exiting the building with staff members reporting
there is water
flowing out of the ceiling. Upon further investigation firefighters
found a 1 1/2 inch
sprinkler pipe that broke in three different places causing thousands
of gallons of
water to come flowing through the ceiling! After securing the
electric and shutting
off the water, Gladwyne members remained on the scene for just under
2 hours
assisting Super Fresh management with cleaning up the water roofing
material
that fell into the store. The Montgomery County Health Department
was requested
to respond and evaluate the scene as well. It is unknown at this
time how long the
store will be closed.

| GLADWYNE RESPONDS TO CEMENT TRUCK ROLLOVER |
| Date: |
8/2/07 |
At 3:40 pm, the fire company responded to a crash involving a cement truck at 320 River Road. Firefighters found a cement truck on its side and against the rear wall of the Gladwyne VFW. The truck apparently experienced some type of brake failure as it was descending Waverly Road and raced out of control towards the VFW. To avoid a direct hit into the VFW, the driver steered right, careened off the roadway, down the embankment, and just over a 500 pound propane tank before landing on its side.
The driver, who was able to remove himself from the cab, was transported to a trauma center for treatment. Gladwyne firefighters made sure the diesel fuel was contained, stood-by while a torch was used to cut metal and assisted in placing a cable into the "barrel." Later, the company returned and provided scene lighting for the recovery effects.
Note the tire marks on the top of the propane tank. If the truck was airborne just a few inches less, the incident would have been catastrophic.

| ELECTRICAL FIRE |
| Date: |
7/23/07 |
Gladwyne responded today to an incident on Conshohocken State Road that potentially could have been deadly. The homeowner reported that an outside electrical wire fell along the side of her home. Shortly thereafter, a light bulb exploded inside the home and she started to notice a burning odor. While calling 911, the homeowner received an electrical shock through her phone. Again, this could have been deadly.
Gladwyne firefighters found that the an outside electrical wire had come into contact with the cable service. Checking nearby homes, firefighters found at least three houses that had problems. Firefighters stood by until the electric utility arrived on scene.
PLEASE, remember the dangers of electricity. If you suspect an electrical emergency, stay away from electrical devices and metal fixtures. Do not use a corded phone to call 911. Instead, use a cordless phone, a cell phone, or call from a neighbor's home. Outside, stand clear of all electrical wires, trees and fences.
Note the photo with the wire that is glowing cherry red -- indicating a very high current flow.

This morning, Gladwyne firefighters were dispatched for a vehicle rescue on Conshohocken State Road near Greaves Lane. | 53 YEARS OF APPARATUS! |
| Date: |
7/15/07 |
Today Gladwyne members set up the apparatus for a few pictures! The snorkel will be leaving our village on Saturday for long trip to North Carolina, but before that happened we thought it would be appropriate to line the trucks up and snap a few photos! The Autocar even made an appearance! The Autocar which was purchased in 1954 served until the Snorkel was purchased in 1979 for just under $200,000 and most recently the ladder truck was purchased in 2007 for just over $800,000. We lined the three trucks up and have 53 years of fire apparatus in succession! We also compared the pump operators panels as they have been getting more complex over the years as well! The first picture is of the Autocar, then the Snorkel, and finally the ladder trucks! If you have not been in to see the new truck, please stop by (as long as it is not out on driver training).
